Security used to be measured by the number of cameras on a wall, locks on a door or alarms connected to a control room. Today, organisations face a more complex challenge. They need to protect people and property, control physical and digital access, respond to incidents quickly, understand what is happening across their sites and manage increasingly important privacy obligations.
That is where ABT Security Systems is different.
ABT Security designs, implements and supports integrated security solutions that connect physical protection with business technology and actionable intelligence. The result is a clearer, more responsive security environment that helps organisations reduce risk while improving the way they operate.
This longstanding commitment has now been recognised through ABT Security Systems achieving Gold Corporate Membership recognition from the Australian Security Industry Association Limited. ASIAL awards Gold recognition to financial members with 16 to 24 years of continuous membership. For ABT, it represents more than longevity. It reflects an ongoing commitment to professionalism, responsible practice and high standards within the Australian security industry.
Security that protects from the door to the data
ABT Security supports organisations across the corporate, gaming, hospitality, retail, warehousing, pharmaceutical and transport sectors. Every environment presents a different combination of risks, which is why ABT takes a platform agnostic and consultative approach rather than prescribing the same system to every client.
The objective is simple: give the right people the right access, provide real time visibility across the organisation and create a reliable response when something requires attention.
ABT’s core security capabilities include:
- Access control and identity management
- High definition CCTV and intelligent surveillance
- Detection, alarm and 24 hour monitoring solutions
- Facial intelligence and watchlist alerts
- Business intelligence and operational analytics
- Integration with ERP, CRM, point of sale and other business platforms
- Privacy impact assessments, governance frameworks and staff training
These capabilities can be deployed individually or brought together as one integrated solution.
Access management for physical and digital environments
Access management is about more than opening a door. It is about verifying identity, applying the correct permissions and maintaining control across buildings, systems, enterprise data and cloud applications.
ABT provides access control options ranging from smart cards, proximity tokens and keypads to Bluetooth credentials, dual authentication and biometric readers. Facial intelligence can also form part of a carefully governed access solution.
For organisations with higher security requirements, access management can be connected with multi factor authentication, surveillance and enterprise systems. This helps create a consistent security layer across both physical and digital environments, while producing better auditability and clearer information for authorised teams.
Surveillance that helps organisations act
Traditional CCTV records an event. Intelligent surveillance helps an organisation understand and respond to it.
ABT’s surveillance solutions combine high definition video, remote monitoring, alarms, analytics and facial intelligence. Depending on the operating environment, a system can help deter theft and unauthorised access, provide evidence for investigations, monitor congestion, identify safety concerns and alert authorised staff when a defined event occurs.
Detection and alarm systems can incorporate motion detection, environmental sensors, glass break sensors, magnetic door switches and photoelectric beams. Mobile access can allow authorised users to arm or disarm systems and review activity remotely, while 24 hour back to base monitoring provides continuous oversight.
Because ABT designs for integration, surveillance can also connect with access control, ERP and point of sale data. This turns security infrastructure into a source of operational insight, not simply a record of past events.
Facial intelligence with a defined purpose
Facial recognition can be valuable when it is used for a clear, lawful and proportionate purpose. It can help authorised teams identify a person on a legitimate watchlist, support self exclusion obligations, recognise an approved VIP where consent exists or alert security to a documented risk.
ABT’s approach is centred on targeted facial intelligence rather than indiscriminate public tracking. The technology can integrate with existing IP CCTV infrastructure and provide real time alerts to authorised staff. Privacy controls may include face blurring, role based access, controlled retention, secure architecture, audit trails and the storage of biometric signatures rather than conventional images, depending on the solution design.
Just as importantly, ABT promotes a human in the loop operating model. Technology can inform a decision, but trained people remain responsible for assessing an alert and taking appropriate action.
This distinction matters. A responsible deployment is not defined only by what the technology can do. It is defined by why it is being used, who can access it, how long information is retained and what governance surrounds every decision.
Venue AI: one intelligence layer for security and operations
Pubs, clubs and licensed venues operate in some of the most demanding security environments. They manage high foot traffic, multiple entry points, late night trade, rotating staff, responsible gambling obligations and the need to protect both patrons and employees.
ABT Venue AI combines privacy focused facial intelligence with analytics that help venue operators see what is happening across the entire business.
The platform can measure unique and total footfall, patron journeys, dwell time, traffic flow, zone popularity, service velocity, congestion, bounce patterns and anonymous demographic trends. It can also compare employee and patron ratios and provide overcrowding alerts.
When this information is connected with CRM, ERP and point of sale data, operators can examine footfall to sales conversion, purchasing patterns, cross venue performance and the relationship between staffing, service and demand. This can inform decisions about rostering, layout, promotions, service flow and resource allocation.
For security and responsible gambling teams, Venue AI can also support real time alerts for lawfully managed self exclusion registers and documented safety risks. The purpose is to help authorised staff respond consistently and with greater confidence, while other patrons remain outside the watchlist process.
Practical facial intelligence packages for licensed venues
ABT has developed scalable packages for venues that want a practical path to deployment. The three channel facial recognition package, for example, is designed for single entry pubs and smaller clubs.
It can provide coverage for a main entry and gaming room, work with existing compatible IP CCTV cameras, deliver real time self exclusion alerts and support mobile alerts and additional channels. Larger and multisite configurations are also available.
The technical system is only one part of the package. Governance, privacy assessment and staff readiness are essential to a responsible implementation.
Privacy by design, supported by the ABT PIA Builder
Privacy cannot be added after a facial intelligence system goes live. It needs to shape the deployment from the beginning.
The March 2026 Code of Practice: Facial Recognition Technology in Hotels and Clubs created a clearer governance framework for the use of facial recognition in the NSW hospitality sector. ABT’s response is to pair technology with a structured privacy and governance process.
The ABT PIA Builder is an AI enabled assessment tool based on the AHA and ClubsNSW Code of Practice. It helps venues identify, evaluate and mitigate privacy risks when personal information is collected, used or disclosed. The process is designed to produce a Privacy Management Program that is ready for legal review and ratification.
It guides operators through lawful deployment, data retention, biometric handling, privacy configuration, accuracy, proportionality, accountability and operational policies. ABT can also assist with governance framework design, staff training, audit trail maintenance, policy reviews and ongoing compliance support.
This creates a more defensible approach in which privacy, ethics and operational readiness are considered alongside system performance.
Protecting retail workers while respecting customers
Retail security is also changing. Governments and industry bodies are placing greater focus on violence, intimidation, repeat offending and the safety of frontline workers. Western Australia’s Retail Barring Orders Bill 2025, for example, proposes a court based framework through which violent or threatening individuals could be barred from particular retail locations.
As ABT’s article People Have the Right to Work in Retail Without Fear of Harm argues, legal authority is only one part of effective protection. Retail teams also need a safe and practical way to recognise a documented risk in real time without expecting frontline workers to memorise faces or directly confront a potentially dangerous individual.
Targeted facial intelligence can help alert qualified security or management personnel so that a response can be assessed and managed appropriately. At the same time, privacy measures such as watchlist limitations, data minimisation, encryption, access controls, anonymisation and defined retention periods help protect the wider public.
ABT’s retail solutions can also connect footfall analytics, transaction data, CRM information and business intelligence platforms. This gives retailers a broader view of security, queueing, staffing, store performance and customer behaviour while supporting a privacy by design approach.
A security partner for the long term
Technology changes quickly, but the fundamentals of good security remain consistent: understand the risk, choose the right tools, govern them responsibly and support them properly.
ABT Security brings together specialist security knowledge and the broader technology capability of ABT Group. That means clients can connect security infrastructure with cloud services, ERP, point of sale and business intelligence rather than managing each system in isolation.
ABT does not simply install equipment and walk away. Its team designs, deploys, integrates and supports solutions over the long term, helping clients adapt as their operations, risks and regulatory responsibilities evolve.
Gold ASIAL membership recognition is an important milestone in that journey. More importantly, it reinforces the standard ABT continues to pursue: security that is effective, proportionate, integrated and built around the people and organisations it is there to protect.
